Let’s Get Serious – Why we’re pushing for law reform

At first glance, surrogacy law reform might seem an unusual topic for a communications and media platform. However, KPB Presents has always been about people, stories, and conversations that matter — and few subjects are more personal than family.

Surrogacy has helped build families in the UK for decades, including my own. Yet the laws governing it were largely written in 1985, long before modern fertility treatment, same-sex parenting, online matching, and today’s family structures became part of everyday life.

The current UK system is also altruistic, meaning surrogates are not paid to carry children for profit. For many people, that spirit of trust, generosity, and cooperation is something worth protecting. The challenge is making sure the law properly reflects how surrogacy actually works in 2026 — and gives better clarity and protection to everyone involved. Especially the child.

That’s why KPB Presents was pleased to be approached by a London-based surrogate to talk about the reforms, and to put that conversation out to MPs to be discussed in parliament. If you search back on the KPB Presents YouTube channel you’ll also see short interviews with all sorts of people directly connected to the subject: parents, surrogates, professionals, children born through surrogacy, and others with lived experience.

The aim isn’t to lecture people or turn this platform into a political campaign. It’s simply to encourage informed, balanced conversation around an area of life that affects more families than many realise.

And honestly, if British law still thinks the world looks like 1985, somebody probably needs to update the settings.
